Baba Yaga sketch

She flies in a mortar and sweeps the sky with her broom. I've given her a pestle, which makes more sense to me. I was hoping I could leave her in the mortar, so I wouldn't have to give her feet. But I'm not so sure that's going to work. Abandoning this sketch until I figure it out.

I love the witch. Sketches are great. I'd go for a hybrid of eyes/no eyes. The lack of eyes is a bit too startling.

You are fantastic at sketching... I'd go with the eyes. No eyes and I'd stare at her in wonder and fear and forget to listen and watch the story, I think. Love the Hedgehog short. I need friends like yours!

Hey Claire,

Mike Mignola, maker of the comic book Hellboy, included a lot of mythology in some of his works. One of his stories dealt with Hellboy running into Baba Yaga. If you need some reference, here's a more modern representation of Baba Yaga:

Maybe only one eye? A big wart on the nose is always sinister too.

Incredible sketches! I think Stephen hit it on the nose with the eyes/no eyes thing. A hybrid would probably work better. I agree with you about trying to keep her in the pestle/mortar (does anyone know which is which) so you don't have to get into the leg animation.

I can't wait to see more of the witch!
